Re: What series did you love at first, but as it went on you couldn’t stand it?

I mean, most things go severely down hill if they go on long enough. But I think that's honestly just a little bit natural and inescapable. IMO there's some kind of creative entropy that's almost inherent to stories if they go on long enough.

Whereas there are other shows that don't so much go down hill naturally over time - they just flop, or lose their way almost as soon as they find it.

Dirk Gently was an example of a show that I started to love, after S1, but then it just fell the fuck apart in S2. I mean, S2 was a MESS. (entirely IMO, of course.)

The one that really broke me heart was Sherlock. I loved episode one and I liked big chunks of S1&2, but then everything after that was just terrible, IMO. Like, I found S3&4 so bad it actually made me reevaluate some of the things I liked about S1 and 2, and realize that I was giving the writers too much credit for a lot of things.

Then there's main network shows like Lucifer and Timeless, that I liked at first. They were fun and they seemed to have potential. But as they went on, they proceeded to do all of the lazy, predictable, obvious sorts of things that I find so boring. It's a problem I have with almost all main network shows these days. They just feel really pre-packaged and bland to me. Even if there are ideas in the show that seem to have depth, in execution they usually lack nuance.

I was just re-watching the third ep of Sherlock S4 recently, and man, is it weird. I will gladly stan for that show all day long and I generally like S3 and S4 fine. I thought The Six Thatchers, at least, was kind of run of the mill and that made me wonder what people were complaining about with S4... but I somehow keep forgetting how weird that last episode was.
