As an artist I have no idea why anyone would post their art to AO3, it’s just not a good platform for it.

Gotta post it somewhere, and at least you have a reasonable expectation it won't get taken down from AO3

Sure but the lack of image preview kills any potential the site may have for art. Treating visual media the same way you treat written media just doesn’t work.

DA From what I heard it looks like some people are posting their art on AO3 so they can keep the kudos and comments. The image might get deleted from whatever site it was hosted in, but so long as the AO3 post is still up they'll keep the interactions with their work.

That said, I dislike posting fanart on AO3 so I guess I'll just enjoy the quiet here on DW.

Are previews that big a deal? I guess I can understand it for spoiler-type stuff but...if the art/artist is good and i'm interested, I just want to see the art. I don't care about a preview.

Yeah but there is no way to tell if the art or artist is good while just scrolling through AO3 because it doesn’t show the art in any sort of preview image. Text summaries do not draw people in to wanting to click on random art, so art is usually ignored in favor of fanfic.

Source: have posted art there, would not recommend

I guess I'm used to art that goes along with a story, so that's how I see it.

I see random fanart on pinterest, mostly.
