Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Ouran High School Host Club aren't the Holy Grail of post-90's anime. They're average stories with the same character tropes and other issues that their fans complain about in other anime.

It's all about the delivery, anon. The stories are cliche, yeah, but the animation and characterization are some of the best.

Okay true, the animation is good. Disagree about the characterization. The characters are the same cliches you can find in any anime. With the exception of Haruhi from Ouran, who has a refreshingly realistic personality unlike everyone else with their over-the-top zany quirks. But she's not enough to save the show.

I thought that was kinda the point of Ouran though. The humor comes from Haruhi's straight man to ridiculousness of all them damn rich people.

I hated Host Club... didn't even realize it was considered anything special.
