Liking animation for the story is dumb. It's all about how well the animation and visuals deliver the characterization and world that matters.

Now this is a burning hot take.

Uh? I can’t think of any storytelling medium that I enjoy no matter how bad the plot and story are. And while, yes, there are plots and stories out there where their execution in a chosen medium makes a big difference (like all the different ways to stage a Shakespeare play, or any play), I can’t think of any medium where great technical execution can completely transform or hide a shittastically awful plot.

WRONG!

A good story can rescue mediocre animation.

A bad story can kill great animation.

You can like anything for the story, but I would say "liking animation for the story" is different than "liking an animated movie for the story." "Liking the animation" means liking the animation (style or technical achievement) independent of everything else.
