I always hear that this fandom is dramatic as hell but have never been privy to any details. Any good scoops?

The Permapanties

(Anonymous) 2018-12-19 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
I replied to the above anon with some drama, but here's another one. Last year, AG decided that the dolls should come with sewn on underwear with the reason being that the kids lose underwear or something like that. This makes very little sense since they sell underwear sets for the dolls (at about ten bucks a pop), so a parent could just buy their kid more underwear if it got lost. People were throwing around all these theories as to why they would make such an asinine decision. Some people thought it was a cost-cutting measure, others thought it was because AG had expanded to the Middle East and maybe there was some modesty law there that decreed dolls needed to have sewn-on underwear (despite no evidence suggesting that dolls sold in those countries have their underwear sewn or painted on). The permapanties looked horrible with the newer, thinner body fabric and couldn't be covered with pants or swimsuits. Some of the dolls also looked like they had a dump in their undies due to the stuffing shifting. Around this time, AG also released a bathroom set with a toilet and people were wondering how exactly dolls were supposed to use the toilet if they couldn't pull down their undies. When people complained on their Facebook page, the person in charge of their social media account was very snarky and sometimes outright nasty to the people complaining and a lot of the negative comments were deleted, which further pissed people off. It was a massive shitstorm that actually got some press coverage and, after declining sales, AG declared that the dolls would no longer come with permapanties. If one had bought a doll with permapanties, one could also send the doll in for a free body replacement.

Okay, there's something about this that's just cracking me up :p. Not exactly the most common topic for a fandom to fight over, that's for sure :p.

Seriously, though, I can totally see where that whole thing would be an issue for real. This fandom sounds absolutely wild, and I'm sorry for those of you who just want to have your fun having to put up with all this ridiculous crap.
