Do you like yours? Hate it? Looking for one?

I work with adults with developmental disabilities and I usually love my job. I often get afraid I'm not good enough at it, but I love it.

What's your job title or description?

Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional. There's a lot of paperwork involved.

I just got one yesterday! It's just cashiering at Walmart but I haven't worked in seven years and I LOVE cashiering. We desperately need the income so I'm glad to have this!

Congrats anon! I worked in the Walmart bakery a long, long time ago and had always wished I had gotten a cashier position instead.

Good for you, anon!! And don't say "it's just", you work and it's valuable! Congrats!

I love my job. I work for Goodwill as a softlines sorter: I go through the clothing donations we receive and determine if they'll be sold in our store, on our e-commerce website, or recycled as as-is, and then hang and price the clothes and put them out on the sales floor. Goodwill is a great company to work for.

You must see a lot of clothing! Any goods in particular stand out? And where do you send the clothing you recycle to?

I love Goodwill & Salvation Army. You never know what you're going to find!I like buying records from Goodwill.

NGL, I'd love to do this.

I love my job (as in the work itself), but honestly I hate 75% of my co-workers and their 'oh wait I need to do work?' attitudes.

Re: Jobs

(Anonymous) 2018-12-19 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Haaaaate it. Like 90% of the staff is so negative, and no one likes taking initiative. If someone has a complaint, they come to me because I actually try solving problems / will twist Management's arm if there's nothing I personally can do to help. I've been applying for other jobs for months, but nothing is happening. :/

Re: Jobs

(Anonymous) 2018-12-19 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Are you sure you don't secretly work with/are me? Everyone comes to me with complaints and my answer is usually, "Have you told [boss]? You know I can't do anything, right?"

I mean, I'll bring things up with my boss if I think there are issues, but sometimes if it's just coming from me it doesn't hold enough weight like having more people come forward and point out something isn't working.

I'm a background extra. I always describe my job as being simultaneously really cool and complete shit. Sometimes I like my job. Other times I just want to cry at how awful it is.

Pros include all the free food you can eat, lots of overtime, and having a lot of interesting stories to tell about all the ridiculous stuff you've done for your job.

Cons include shitty pay (unless you're full union), extreme cold, extreme boredom, extremely early call times, and being treated like crap because everyone else matters more to the production than you do.

How important is your headshot for getting casted as an extra? That sounds like fun work though! Hope you get more screen time roles, if that's your aim!

I love what I do. I just wish I was actually employed (am a contract worker) and working full time. I want a reasonable salary and benefits (mostly health care). But I'm doing what I love, and that really can't be beat.

Hate it. Have an interview for a new one tomorrow but I'm not super confident.

I’m a freelancer for a transcription company. It doesn’t pay enough, but I like never having to interact with any human beings at all.

Re: Jobs

(Anonymous) 2018-12-19 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you me? I even dislike having to send a comment to a client if they/I have a question.

Re: Jobs

(Anonymous) 2018-12-19 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of hate it. The workload is pretty heavy, management is mixed (some of them I like while others are total jerks), there's a lot of mandatory overtime and I hate OT, the pay is kind of shit, and like most places my coworkers can be a little dramatic and it takes focus away from work. But the benefits are pretty nice so it keeps me around. I want to find another job but I don't know what field I want to get into since I don't want to be working in the same one I am in right now.

Still holding out on winning the lottery.

I'm okay with it. I work in special ed. Love the kids, like the parents, and like the staff. I hate the meetings and paperwork.

Some days I like it, and some days I hate it. But I'm making damn good money as a college dropout so there's that.

I'd like to not be in the bottom 25% of pay for my position in my area, but my job has enough perks attached that I can't bitch too much. My boss is easy-going so long as I get my work done, my co-workers have positive attitudes more often than not, and I have a pension plan. One more year until I'm fully vested!!
