Re: Jobs

I'm a background extra. I always describe my job as being simultaneously really cool and complete shit. Sometimes I like my job. Other times I just want to cry at how awful it is.

Pros include all the free food you can eat, lots of overtime, and having a lot of interesting stories to tell about all the ridiculous stuff you've done for your job.

Cons include shitty pay (unless you're full union), extreme cold, extreme boredom, extremely early call times, and being treated like crap because everyone else matters more to the production than you do.

How important is your headshot for getting casted as an extra? That sounds like fun work though! Hope you get more screen time roles, if that's your aim!

I would say headshots are very unimportant, as I don't have any, and never have. I just send my agency pictures of myself whenever I change my hair, or sometimes if I'm in an interesting costume. That said, I know professional headshots can give people a bit of an advantage sometimes - they're just not at all necessary.

Hahaha! It's actually completely not, but thanks anyway! There's really no such thing as screen time for BG. You might spend 12 hours filming a scene and then not be visible in it, or you might get "featured" and be clearly visible for a whole four seconds(!) - that's about the extent of it. It's actually more common for BG to want to avoid being featured, because if they're seen too much they might not get booked to play anything else on the show for a while.

I mean I'd love an acting role. Because money. And acting credits. But I'd have to actually, you know, pursue acting in order for that to happen, lol.
