I don't believe any penis length statistics as a matter of course (the quality of the data is just unbelievably awful), but even under that scenario, 1/20 of the population isn't that rare (especially if that's actually the population rate, and not the penis-having rate).

For me it's the talk of exact measurements that does it. Maybe it's because I'm awful at eyeballing the size of stuff, but unless someone is literally holding a ruler to a penis in the story, I just can't take it.

I've read a crap ton of porn fics and the majority did not specify an exact length. I think it's kind of weird for a fic to specify. Just say it's large or don't describe it by size at all.

In my experience the exact length of penises (and bra size for female characters) tends to appear a lot more in amateur original smut published in forums and websites which have nothing to do with fanfiction. I guess it could be part of the subculture, sort of "everyone here does it so I will too".

I also remember once reading a comparison between the general styles and trends in this sort of erotica against porny fanfiction, and they attributed most of the differences to the majority of writers of original smut being male against most fanfiction writers being female.

Then again, both my "experience" with original smut and that article must have been from around or shortly after the time of the LiveJournal Strikethrough, so it might be completely irrelevant by now and maybe even inaccurate back then.

I can live with (reading about) 9 inches even if it's uncommon. But some people are using measurements that are more like "visible from space" and I tune out at that point.

In real life I'm 100% cool with all sizes, and, I mean, I prefer sex toys that are fairly small. Take from that what you will.

I like to be vague enough that the reader can imagine a large cock if they want, or not. My main guy has indicated that he "thinks it's only average," but in context, people could assume he's being humble.

I just... don't talk about actual size in fics. Unless someone is supposed to have a big dick, but I don't mention the size in inches, just that it looks large.
