IDK I definitely get where you're coming from. But I also feel like it should be possible for a white person to write Asian-inspired cultures without fetishizing them, at least theoretically.

Bridge of Birds was a fun Chinese-inspired fantasy novel that was written by a white guy and was not fetishy IMHO.

they're delightful, I wish he had written more than three. I'm still looking for the third. Song of the Stone is good but Bridge of Birds is beautiful in places.

I read all three. Bridge of Birds was definitely the best but they were all good. I didn't think they were fetishy at the time, though not being an Asian person I can't say.
