Don't feel bad, OP. I did the same thing (used podcasts to keep my company) after I moved to a new country and my partner subsequently became seriously ill for a year.

Being able to listen to a bunch of people chatting like pals makes you feel a part of something. It's an important thing, imo.

It's not pathetic, if it helps, it helps. I know I love and appreciate those good boys and their content has cheered me up when I really needed it.

I get the same warm fuzzies from listening to the Verity! Doctor Who podcast. (I'm a longtime casual fan, so I'm not always familiar with waht they're discussion, but they all have great voices, and they sound like they're having fun.)

We're here with you, OP. And fandom is a great get-away plan or just something nice to tide you over. *hug*

The McElroys literally kept me alive last year. It's not hyperbole- I was a ball of mental health woes and thinking about killing myself on a daily, sometimes hourly, basis and I couldn't fathom anyone caring enough to help me. The only thing that brought me any measure of joy was McElroy stuff- MBMBAM or Monster Factory or TAZ. At first I would just listen or watch an episode when I was desperately seeking a distraction, but then I decided to just mainline everything and, honest to god, by the time I made it to the end of TAZ's Balance Arc, my general outlook had made a huge shift towards the hopeful, and I got the help I needed.

More than that, however, this year I was chatting with some randos during a stream, and I mentioned my experience and the number of people who said the boys had helped them through similar funks/bad times blew me away. There's just something genuinely uplifting and encompassing about their comedy that makes it such a balm for anxiety, or sadness, or loneliness.
