Ooh, have you read the book, OP? I haven't seen the Netflix adaptation, but I read the book a while back and enjoyed most of it. I hope the next book, Puddin', gets made into a movie as well because I liked that one even more.

Also, if you think they would enjoy it, just recc it to your friends! It sounds like a fun movie and, if they ask if you're recommending it for the reasons you stated, you can always say you recommended it because of the Dolly Parton soundtrack or whatever.

That book was the worst trash I ever read.
Dumplin treated her "friends" and love interests like doormats. - Needed someone to drive her around? Make the loser with the kitties on her shirt do it.

Her inner momologues were awful. "Well, I'm fat, but at least I don't have kittens on my shirt/can still wear normal jeans and not have to wear stretch trousers/..."

She is such a self-righteous person, and I don't get how that book is meant to sell body-positivity in any way.
Dumplin is all about "there is always someone fatter and uglier than me".

I wish any of the queer characters could have gotten their own stories - I was a bit bothered that Hannah got no storyline despite a gender non corfoming pageant contestant being as big a deal as a fat contestant, but I liked the performances and the soundtrack, and I thought they pulled off the small town Texas vibe well.

I had the same feeling about Insatiable when they had a bunch of characters from an LGBT center show up for an episode and then had none of them ever show up again

Unrelated to the secret but... that lady on the right looking like she's in her mid-thirties but wearing a Teen Miss sash is really weird.

Ok now I googled it and... it is. She plays the other girl's mother, apparently, and is and ex-Miss and acts as a judge for the same peagant. That explains things. I thought "casting outside of the actual age range" had reached new grotesque heights but that's not the case here, it seems.
