It's clear she had little to no empathy for the serial killer's victims or their families. Her interest was in making a name for herself and she was willing to elevate a serial murderer in order to do that. Nearly becoming a victim herself gave her a tiny bit of insight into what she'd been ignoring, and she was still 100% unrepentant. Not even seeing someone get tortured in front of her and narrowly avoiding torture and death herself could put her off wanting to use the suffering of others to become famous. So yeah, I'm okay with her being targeted by the serial killer tried to glorify, especially since she didn't suffer even half as much as the victims. The episode clearly wrote her as an object lesson.
