I don't mind the band usually, but it's an annoying song. I assume you're similarly irked by tumblr posts lauding it as the perfect tunnel song that everyone loves to sing along to and blah blah.

Curious trivia that I just found out: The Killers are named after the fake band in the New Order video "Crystal." The Killers would do their own homage/rip-off of that video with "Somebody Told Me." Both of which are better tracks than "Mr. Brightside." But at least it's not Wonderfuckingwall or that dreadful song about the abortion that pop radio played to death before "Mr. Brightside."

I suspect that when "Brightside" gets hailed as "the generation's 'Stairway to Heaven'" they really don't quite mean, "an excessively over-played trifle that's not the band's best, very white, and derivative of prior work, oh yeah, and created by people who were older than the song's aggressively triangulated marketing cohort."

I don't think anyone would care much if you said the song isn't your thing. If you said the song was trash and said or implied that anyone who thought differently was wrong, then, yeah, people would get upset.

Although to be fair, even NPR jumped on the "Mr. Brightside is the Millennial 'Stairway to Heaven'" bandwagon, so we can't blame it all on tumblr.

I'm a Killers fan (or at least I was back in 2007), and I like Mr. Brightside a lot, but-

A) It's totally fine that you don't.

B) I have my own unpopular opinions about The Killers. Mainly, that their second album, Sam's Town, was a near-masterpiece, and far superior to the (perfectly good) Hot Fuss.

OP, I sincerely hope you do not live in the UK, because apparently Mr. Brightside is STILL in the top 100 over there after nearly fourteen years!? That'd make even someone who was neutral on the song hate it after a while.
