Re: Confessions?
(Anonymous) 2019-01-04 06:02 am (UTC)(link)Maybe it's because organ donation saves lives but making a baby for someone is just giving them a thing they want. Maybe it's because I find the idea of pregnancy rather unpleasant and I can't imagine doing it for someone else for free. (I can sooner imagine getting pregnant accidentally and putting the baby up for adoption - assuming I wouldn't just keep it or abort - than intentionally getting pregnant so that someone else can have the baby.)
I have no real argument to make here. It's just that when people talk about whether it should be allowed to pay surrogates, I think "Why not? It's like having a pre-natal nanny."

(Anonymous) 2019-01-04 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)That's definitely a serious issue and I think there should be laws and regulation, even covering instances when surrogates are doing it for free, and people should draw up legal contracts with their surrogates detailing everyone's roles and responsibilities and indicating what would happen in various contingencies (if not already defined by law).
The fundamental idea of surrogates getting paid just doesn't seem like a moral problem to me, though.
