I've always heard 40 to 60. I'm so not only two years away from middle aged.

Same. I've literally never heard anyone describe anything under 40 as middle aged.

Average life expectancy in the US is ~77, so if you’re being optimistic middle age starts at 38. The only people I’ve ever met who didn’t think it started somewhere in the 30s were desperate and unwilling to accept that they were approaching middle age. If you’ve hit the age where a pregnancy would automatically be considered high risk because of how old you are, you might be middle-aged.

Not saying it can't be middle age. Just that you are the first person I've ever heard say that 30s are middle age. Everyone I've ever heard talk about middle age always talked about 40s and 50s.

Same. Also, it doesn't mean "exactly half of the average life expectancy", it's just a category for people who aren't young and aren't old. At least that's how everyone I've ever known has used it.

These things change over the years but pretty much everyone (that I know of) considers 30s young now. I've literally never in my life heard anyone describe anything under 40 as middle aged.
