I'm not sure whether I'm missing something here, but I gotta say, making a gingerbread church really doesn't seem that bad, as bible-thumping goes.

I'm guessing it's putting the cross on the side of the gingerbread house that's bugging OP. I don't think it's a church.

It really doesn't look like a church, though. Just a house with a religious decoration tacked on as an afterthought.

Of course, maybe he wanted to make a gingerbread church but couldn't get the gingerbread steeple right. Or somebody ate it.

Two seconds on reverse google shows you're referring to Chris Pratt, idk why you'd play it vague

Hell, I didn't even need to do that to know it was Pratt.

Most people don't know how to use reverse Google. I mean jfc, most people can't even be bothered to Google, period.

Right? If OP's gonna refer so obviously to a specific actor, it's obnoxious not to just call them out by name.

Yeah, same. Also, he's cute, and I'd probably get along with him well in real life, but I admit to feeling a little weird about people who seem kinda performative about their religion on social media. This is not exactly a big deal example of that though.

Ok so that wasn't intended to be a gingerbread church????

(Anonymous) 2019-01-08 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
IDK. If it was a church wouldn't it have a steeple as opposed to a regular chimney? It's definitely from a kit and gingerbread church kits exist, but they look more... well, churchy.

Is this like... 'you're celebrating Christmas wrong!!' but from the secular side? I didn't even know that was a thing... congrats.

This doesn't seem all that Bible-thumpery to me.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-08 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe he wanted to put a little more Christ in his Christmas? People legitimately put crosses on their houses as part of the their Christmas decorating because that's part of their celebration.

What about the giant easter cross?

Christmas as celebrated by Christians is literally the "Christ-mass" celebration of Jesus being born though? The fact that non-Christians celebrate Christmas as a purely cultural thing doesn't make it not fundamentally a religious holiday. Of all the things to complain about, the fact that a religious person put a religious symbol on the decoration they made as part of their personal celebration of a religious holiday is a pretty ridiculous one.

ikr?
I was kind of lolling about calling it a "secular decoration". Like, OP, my dude, gingerbread houses are a traditional decoration for a religious holiday.

I'm an atheist and I've got major moral issues with Christianity in general, but this complaint is pretty fucking dumb.

Christmas isn't secular. You personally may faithlessly participate in the celebration of Christ's birth, but the celebration is religious.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-08 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, modern American Christmas is a melding of three disparate holidays. 1) Christ Mass, the Christian celebration of Jesus’ birth, 2) Yule, the Pagan celebration of winter, 3) Consumerism Yay, the gluttonous purchase and devouring of food we shouldn’t eat and shit we shouldn’t buy, inflated by a massive marketing scheme. So 2/3 of it is very un-Christian.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-08 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, I also think Chris Pratt is a douche but, anon... gingerbread houses are made for Christmas. Despite the way it gets disseminated, Christmas is a Christian/Catholic holiday.

Well said.

So here's the problem, guys. Those multi-colored candies (tgat aren't holly or trees) are clearly meant to be those huge, old-timeybulbs on string lights, but the ones over the door are positioned so they point up instead of hanging down, IN DEFIANCE OF GRAVITY. I am not okay with this.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-08 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Objectively, he's not doing anything wrong.

However, personally I do find it pretty cringey/douchy. Like those musicians who always thank god first in their liner notes.

I found out the other day Chris Pratt probably dated Emily VanCamp before she was even an adult while he was 25.

Everwood creator Greg Berlanti said "I will tell you, in terms of gossip, that I could tell the flirtation was already happening between the two of them [Pratt and VanCamp] in the pilot, and she was quite young then and Chris was...not. So there's your gossip. As far as I was concerned, there were sparks flying then, and for fear that anyone would get arrested I was praying that wouldn't happen until everyone was legal." Earlier in the same interview Berlanti said, "I don't always know what's going on, and I'm the last one to find out, and they keep stuff from me a lot of times, because they'd be afraid, oh, what if I found out these two actors who played brother and sister were really dating in real life."

Knew he was a fucking creep.

I don't like Chris Pratt, but that's proof of absolutely nothing.
