(Anonymous) 2019-01-09 12:10 am (UTC)(link)I do like a little bit of switching, though. I don't want to get the feeling that the author thinks there's something wrong with both characters bottoming sometimes. That's when it gets off-putting to me - when the author kind of gives off a "Oh no, that one's far to ~manly~ to bottom" attitude, or some shit.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-09 12:13 am (UTC)(link)+ the opposite of the second half annoys me too, when people have characters switch because it's not "fair" if switching isn't involved or something like that.
There's nothing wrong with switching and also nothing wrong with not switching.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-09 01:03 am (UTC)(link)AYRT - I agree, it's totally ok if there's no switching. I just find that in fics where the author actually goes out of their way to let us know that These Characters Never Switch, it usually feels like the author has some ideas about What Bottoming Means that I personally find kind of off-putting. But yeah, if the characters just don't switch because the author is like, "I write what I like" - hey, that's cool, good for them.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-09 12:41 am (UTC)(link)Do you approve of that answer?

(Anonymous) 2019-01-09 01:14 am (UTC)(link)That said, I also agree with the anon who replied to you. "I write A as a top because A is [stereotype] and that's the dynamic I find hottest," is a valid answer. It may be frustrating to some people, and I get that. But there's a significant difference between "This stereotype is true, and that's why it's hot," and "I find this stereotype hot. I just do."
