I ran into someone who wrote fics about one of the local hard rock bands at a concert a few years back, they told me they were a writer so I asked them what they wrote, ended up reading one of their then recent works

some of it featured some of the more well known fans, including my sibling, and the writer mistook me for their spouse instead of sibling in a sort of explicit way

as you can imagine, that last part is what made it creepy

Honestly, I'd just be super surprised that someone was interested ienough in me to write things about me.

Honestly, no. I don't care what people write and RPF has been a thing for awhile. It's when people start treating RPF like it's real that it gets creepy/annoying (see: Larries, Robsten, and any celeb with a large following/stans).

It might bother me if it was something in really poor taste where I was assaulted or killed or something. I do write RPF so I'm not speaking against it but I have some limits on what I will write.

I wouldn't do anything about it though, like complain or ask people to stop writing it. I'm just being honest that there are some things that would bother me.

Hmm. I suppose if it's just on a fic website and it's your run of the mill romance story, then I would probably think it was a bit strange but otherwise harmless.

If people were harassing me and people in my life because they genuinely believed I was a whore who broke up another "couple" and they spammed me with hate fic online and wrote about me kicking puppies or something, I'd hide in a cave and never return to civilisation.

I assume it'd be fine as long as the poster had the social sense not to link me to it/print it out and give it to me.

Though back in an older fandom it was a thing where a few people who enjoyed my fic would talk in graphic detail about how they wanted me to IRL domme for them.

Those fans did not have those kinds of social graces, so they usually told me directly.

It would absolutely bother me. One time a friend of mine, uh, let's say "playfully threatened" to write fic of me and one of my friends that I was hanging out with, and I'm not sure if I managed to convey to them just how much it wigged me out. Not sure what I would have done if they'd actually gone through with it, but suffice to say the idea of people writing out and sharing sex fantasies about me is horrifying to me. Especially since the internet never forgets, and you never know who might stumble across it and decide to link it to me, ask me if it was based on real events, share it with people I know IRL... what a fucking nightmare. Just another reason why I'd never want to be famous even if I could lmao

No, because it would mean I was famous. Also I'm a huge believer in "write what you want", so if it did bother me, I wouldn't complain about it in public. Unless it was something really fucked up like me raping someone. Then...write it if you want, pass it around to your friends, but I'd really rather not know about it.

Only if it was clear it was someone I knew, who was using information that they'd found from knowing me personally (in-jokes, private conversations, things only friends would know, etc.) to do it. Because then it's not the RPF that's the problem, it that it's a weird violation of privacy + becomes a secret thing involving you that your friend hasn't told you they're doing. That's why it'd be creepy.

If it's random strangers who are making shit up, go for it.
