10 Things I Hate About You doesn't just change the time period but the attitudes of the characters.

There's a different modern take on The Taming of the Shrew with Rufus Sewell that doesn't manage it as well. It's more faithful to the play but it's almost unwatchable to me because it just didn't make any kind of sense in a modern setting. There are parts where I can see they tried to make it make sense and other parts they kept true to the play that they really, really shouldn't have.
