I think this is exactly what their relationship is. But I think they both can have and deserve more than an unhealthy, co-dependent relationship. And they are both capable of being better, but they bring out the worst in each other.

Geez, the hatred for HP characters feels a little overwhelming at times. Are Ron and Hermione perfect people? No, but their flaws are frankly pretty realistic for people you might know. I still really like them as characters anyway, and I think their relationship is good, and I could see it being functional and happy even if it's not perfect, and I ship them. Fight me tbh

Not OP, but they made this secret out of my comment, so a little context: I was commenting to another secret about how Ron was terrible and Hermione deserved so much better, etc.

FWIW I agree with you and actually love them both and ship them, although I do think there were (realistically) codependent elements to their relationship.

Personally, while I love Hermione to death, I actually think she was more of the problem in the relationship than Ron is. She was downright abusive. Bird spell certainly was abusive. Honestly I don't think they worked together on their own. Thrown in Harry, and I'm fine with them. But they need Harry in the mix.

I never thought of her as abusive when I read the books, but her personality is certainly less likeable to me than Ron's. Anyway, it's clear he married his mother. But I think they can work together as a couple as they mature. Already there were positive signs of that in the last book.

I actually saw them as being the same and not maturing at all. Like, in the epilogue where it comes out that Hermione put a spell on Ron's driving instructor so he could pass the test and get a license. Like, that's exactly what she did in book 6.

To each their own and all that. I just personally can't see them working as a couple.

Go reread. Ron put the spell on the instructor himself.

Hermione is vicious, not abusive. The bird spell happened before they got together and nowhere in the books is she said to inflict physical pain on Ron after they got together. I don't even ship Ronmione but abusive is not a word I'd use to describe Hermione.

Okay, yes, maybe abusive is the wrong word (although it is possible to be abusive when you aren't actually a couple). But what she did was not okay. That was a physical attack. She injured him. That means she's the one who escalated their fights to physical, which makes her the worse one. Though they really are both terrible to each other.

Let's remember - besides the epilogue, they're seventeen years old or younger throughout the series. Of course they're not going to be perfect.

This is true. Except that in the Epilogue, Hermione is still cheating for Ron. So...

I actually agree with your points about Hermione, but factually, see my above comment about rereading.

Saaaaame. My God.

Another snappin hot take!

OP, you're describing Beth and Jerry from Rick and Morty, not Ron/Hermione.
