Exactly: showing the original story some respect. But Disney has never bothered with that one little bit so why start now...

I'm not an expert, but a quick read of the Wikipedia page seems to suggest that there might not actual be an authentic original Aladdin story in the first place?

Weird.

This is true of a lot of myths and folk tales. But most of them do have some sort of general cultural origin. In this case, Aladdin is Middle Eastern even if the specific details of its origin are murky.
