I'll agree that she was dull before and, in general, I like her growth. But the whole "I get it: I'm a mother" thing got old really fast. We get it, JJ. You have kids. It doesn't mean her empathy is magically stronger than anyone else's.

I don't think she's saying that? Emily isn't a mother, and she's always had strong empathy.

Not to that degree, but there have definitely been moments of smarmy mom-ness. Maybe that's just the writing, though; now that the team is so big, it kinda feels like the members are getting reduced to their defining characteristic too often.

I know what you mean, nonny. I don't like those moments either, and I think it's down to lazy writing and characters being reduced to one or two simple tics like you said. One of the reasons why I drifted away from this show was that the characterization was getting sloppier and losing the amazing personalities that the earlier seasons built up.
