Re: What’s the stupidest complaint about a movie you’ve seen?

One of my friends got so pissed off that Ofelia ate two grapes in Pan's Labyrinth she couldn't enjoy the movie after that point. I think it's so funny she hates the movie so much because it's my favorite movie.

I get it. Your friend's reaction was OTT, but I was facepalming at that. Still a good movie though.

NAYRT - Yeah, I like the movie a lot, but that kind of thing always bothers me. I've just always really hated that kind of storytelling (shows up a whole lot in mythology), where a character does something really, really stupid that they were explicitly warned not to do and which they could easily NOT do, because...the plot demands it? Or like, maybe it's supposed to be about Temptation on a mythic and/or biblical level....but also because the plot demands it?

Anon whose friend hated this: I agree that it's common in fairy tales, like Hansel and Gretal or Little Red Riding Hood, and the scene obviously was paying homage to it but also fit in a good excuse IMO. Ofelia didn't eat dinner the night before and then that day her mom was hurting so through all that drama Ofelia didn't eat that day either. One can make the argument that Ofelia had gone for more than 24 hours without food so her temptation was strong. Also, she's still a kid who craves into temptation a little more easily.
