Monsters Inc had a bad ending because making kids laugh in the middle of the night is just as bad as scaring them because both deprive children of the good night's sleep they need to be healthy.

It's a fantasy movie where monsters have a secret society and use noise from children as a commodity. I think the fun police can suspend their belief of reality to assume that in this world, being woken up occasionally in the night isn't going to be detrimental to the kids' health.

(And even if you wanted to be realistic about health concerns, they do this with kids all over the world so it's not like the same children are woken up every night. It'd be sporadic enough for each child that realistically it wouldn't be bad for them at all.)
