Honestly it felt natural to me that she was calm and collected in this situation, because that's the sort of thing that happens to me. In normal situations I'm an anxious wreck, but when we're in an unusual situation and OTHER people who are usually my rock start to panic? Something flips in me and I become the rock. When I was traveling alone I had a panic attack when a flight was delayed, but when traveling with my usually-chill dad and the same thing happened I was THE chillest I've ever been. So yeah, Connie being in that "it's gonna be okay" mode felt right to me.

+1

Seriously, OP, you're taking this as, "I DON'T REACT THIS WAY SO CLEARLY SHE SHOULDN'T BE EITHER"

(Anonymous) 2019-01-19 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
No, I'm taking it as I AND NOBODY ELSE I KNOW reacts this way, so clearly this is unrealistic behavior.

So you want to make the post-space melodrama about their relationship pointless by proving Steven right? That'd be even worse writing, even accepting the 'bad character' nonsense.

Congrats, you know two people who do that now! It's entirely realistic, you just haven't experienced it.

I'm the same way. I overthink things and make myself into a nervous mess under ordinary circumstances, but when push comes to shove and shit hits the fan, I become intensely calm and grounded and logical. Who knows why it happens, but it does.

Me too. It's like my connection to my emotions goes very narrow and I focus. I think it is empathic and also more common than most people think. They just haven't seen a person in the right situation to trigger it.
