To be fair, she might be asking because that is not a given in all European countries. There are countries where it's not unheard of to remove stuff like the stove and oven when you're moving out.

I mean, appliances make sense to me if you spent a lot of money on them and didn't want to buy new ones, but installed carpet seems weird because of the way it's cut to fit specific room sizes.

Yeah, it would. But people are weird...

People we bought from in England ripped out the fitted living room carpet when they moved out, without telling us they were going to. Weird as the room is a very odd shape [extended cottage, still live there 22 years later and still love it, but it is not at all a standard layout]. Also we all had very grubby feet for a couple of weeks.

I've heard that in some parts of Europe, all the kitchen stuff in an apartment, including CABINETS, belongs with the renter and travels with them, which strikes me as A) a lot of unnecessary work to dismantle, move, and install, and B) a pretty chancy a thing to invest in when your next place might be too different in size or configuration for your old kitchen stuff to work and you need to get rid of it to go spend money on new stuff.

I know taking kitchen appliances with you when you sell your housr is not uncommon in some parts of the US, though not where I've lived, but even that still seems nuts as American kitchens tend to be made so that the major appliances and cabinets/counters fit close together. Your stove might be too big for the stove-space in your new house, so you either have to leave it (but what if the buyers want to bring their own stove?) or partially re-do the kitchen, or else it might be too small and look weird. Refrigerators are a real doozy because they vary so much in size.
