I don't think it's weird that you have a low opinion of romantic and sexual love. You feel how you feel and we all feel differently about this. But I do think it's odd that you don't believe two people can be best friends and respect each other deeply while also wanting to fuck. I mean, if you think it's rare, I get that. But it does exist. Unless you think every single person who says they have that with their mate is lying.

I don't care if you anti-ship what I ship (MKINYKATIOK). I only mildly give a crap that you're judgey about RPF. I mean, I don't feel bad, so it doesn't really affect me. However, if you insist on stating incredibly obvious facts at me and acting like you're imparting wisdom, yeah, I'm gonna mock you.

I think I have a right to be judgey about RPF considering you're obsessing over real life people. We've seen the damage and ramifications RPF/obsessive shippers has on real life celebrities, it's not healthy nor should it be condoned. And whatever mockery you can throw at me doesn't really matter because it's coming from a person who's reached the most unhealthy level of fandom and parasocial obsession. You can get defensive and shout YKINMK (as though that term should be applicable to RPF) till you're blue in the face, but fact is, you're kind of sick.

I await the inevitable dogpiling I'm gonna get, but I'm probably not going to see it so go nuts, RPF shippers.

NAYRT

We've seen the damage and ramifications RPF/obsessive shippers has on real life celebrities, it's not healthy nor should it be condoned.

I don't think it makes sense to conflate RPF and obsessive shippers that way. The obsessive shippers are the ones who do the damage and cause the ramifications. RPF, in and of itself, doesn't. I don't like it myself but if people aren't being dicks about it, I don't see what harm it does.

I like RPF, but yeah, "fans" who bring it up in Q&As and tweet the actual people about it, or even send them RPF of themselves - that's really, really not cool.

Plus, the majority of RPF makes a point of stating outright "Yo, this is fiction," which I think is a really good thing to do. Just in case some doofus reads it and doesn't have the mental faculties to realize it's not an authorized biography, lol.

I'm totally with you here. Apparently we're not supposed to say it because it's omg harmless!!! when it absolutely isn't? RPF visibly and actively stresses out the people it's aimed at, and in a lot of cases causes people to put distance between themselves in a desperate bid to make people fucking stop. Look at Chris Colfer and Darren Criss-- they played a gay couple on a TV show and people would not stop shipping them in real life despite several pleas and frantic indication of their significant others... which only made the RPFers worse. It's disgusting and it should be shamed back into the ether.

Don't forget One Direction, pretty much every youtuber who isn't Dan/Phil (who are just milking it for the fujoshi bucks lbr), the guys from Supernatural.

RPF has been shown to negatively affect real people and their relationships. Acting like "Oh, but I'm not the type to make fan content for my ships, I just like it on the side so it's okay" does not make you any less of a creep. I reccomend the RPF fans ITT look up Struccimovies video essays about fake friends and parasocial relationships on youtube.

I'd rather people not dogpile you, but I do wish you'd just started with "RPF is wrong" so I could've saved my breath.

I'm new to this whole thread, but there's a difference between "RPF shippers" and "crazy people". There's a difference between thinking "hey, I think these two people are really cute together and I like watching their interactions and I think they'd make a good couple but I realize that in actuality they're friends and there's nothing romantic going on" and that being the extent of it, and harrassing them on social media/going up to them at cons and asking inappopriate personal questions/sending them porny fanart/etc.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-21 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Fucking THIS.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-21 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
They're both fucked up, stop trying to pretend you're "not like those other RPFers". You're all equally sad and too invested in the lives of people you don't know and who will never know you.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-21 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Tell that to the majority of the fucking planet that reads celebrity gossip rags? How is that any fucking different?

Congrats, it's publicly sanctified fanfic.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-21 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Keep telling yourself that, sweetums.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-21 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Okay snookie. You keep being a judgey douchecanoe.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-21 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Your analogy fucking sucks because celebrities also loathe trash gossip mags. They literally beg paps to stop following them and stop coming up with wild bullshit to sell that has no basis in reality. Like really? Because these horrifically invasive trash rags exist, that makes people doing the Lite version okay? That's the take you're really giving here?

(Anonymous) 2019-01-21 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, because trash rags are in their face, paparazzi follow them around and harass them. THAT IS BAD AND INVASIVE AND TERRIBLE.

Someone writing A loves B in an obscure corner of the internet (unless actors/etc regularly frequent AO3) is not hurting them!

I'm defending fucking crazy people, but to equate fanfic with batshit insane fans who go to cons and panels and say, "Hey Jared admit you're really in love with Jensen!" is ridiculous.

But somehow regular people (not the artists themselves) think trash mags are okay but fanfic is somehow crossing a line. THAT'S what I don't get.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-21 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
not defending** wow, that was a terrible word to leave out...

(Anonymous) 2019-01-21 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Suuuper late to this post, but i just have to say, damn I agree with you so hard.
