Every single fic I read, even the ones that he is the main character in, seem to have him as this heartless bastard. I know he's cold, and he never does anything without weighing the merits of it first, but I still think he's grossly misunderstood by the majority of fans. I like him better than I like Tamaki, only because I see Tamaki as someone who will never really grow up, and what's cute at fifteen/sixteen is not going to be so cute when he's thirty.

Yes, I think he is definitely supposed to be the "shady one" of the group. |D Kyouya's very interesting in that most of the time we see him, he's very calculating and devilishly clever, but there's always those rare (and quite lovely) moments that show he does indeed care to an extent. One of my favorite episodes is when he cried after hearing Tamaki play the piano for the first time. He also cares about Haruhi, in his own Kyouya-ish way. Erm, I'm rambling, it seems, but you get my point~ I can see how people would misunderstand him easily. I think, sometimes, one has to have a certain soft spot for such characters in order to enjoy them.
