The Ouran fandom vilifies Kyouya??!?

I'm not so sure about that, although I'm not really IN the fandom. I've read a huge crapload of fic, however, and he's a hero to a lot of the fangirls.

...

That's mainly Pit fic though and most of the fics I've read where he's prominently featured are fics involving him and Haruhi. I don't pay much attention to actual discussion, so it could be that he's hated, but I haven't seen it anywhere that I can think of. If you're finding that he is, it's quite possible that you're running into rabid Tamaki/Haruhi shippers or something.

No, you made perfect sense. I mean more in the sense that he is grossly misunderstood. Or maybe I'm just being too critical. I just feel that the fanfics that feature him tend to be very poor characterizations, making him look far worse than he is, or making him look too nice and not crediting his motives well.

Yeah, I'll agree with you on that. He's generally either a prince or an evil piece of shit -- when he's not either. It's disappointing, since he's probably the most interesting member of the Host Club.

Except for maybe Mori -- he's totally underexplored.
