While Bateman may be my favourite character ever, if you take the time to think about it, Dexter is much more calm and calculating and would have the upper hand over Bateman's fits psychotic of rage. Bateman is also almost on some type of drug that would hinder his reflexes. Seriously, have you read the book at all?

They're both from different decades and places in life, so I can't fairly compare both of them. But you seem to underestimate Bateman's abilities as a sociopath. Take into account that he's of a higher status, and wears a well-rounded persona (well, considering that everyone around him would be too busy thinking about themselves) And not to mention the unpredictability factor, he's just as much of a methodical thinker as Dexter.

No, I have not read the book but I do plan on buying it sometime when I get the chance to. :) Considering the movie has it where his killiings were just in his head, I don't think comparing the two would be plausible.

Actually, the director stated that the killings were not meant to be in his mind at all. The book and movie are actually fairly similar in that you really can't tell what is in his head and what isn't.

Anyway, Bateman is not methodical at all. He kills what he wants and when he wants, just for pleasure. He killed a kid at a zoo once just to see if he'd like it. Dexter plans things out for weeks, possibly even months in advance.
Dexter totally has the advantage.

Is that why Paul Newman was still alive and the blood on the floors end up magically disappearing when he comes back to his complex. I'm pretty sure there was some proof of that, but I'm too tired to go to IMDB and find out right now.

Well yeah. I didn't really mean before he murders his victims. I meant, in the movie he lays down a pretty articulate plan for hiding the Paul's murder. And while it doesn't show us much of what he does to his victims, the confessions he made to his lawyer on the phone show how much thought went into his alibis. For someone who's doing it on a whim, he's doing a pretty damn good job at it.

Paul Owen (or Allen, if you're going with the movie) is still "alive" in the end of the book. You know why? Because the entire point of both of the book and movie was to prove that nobody knows who anyone really is (like how Owen kept calling Bateman "Halberstam"). The Owen that Bateman's lawyer had lunch with was not the Paul Owen that Bateman killed. It was just some person that his lawyer thought was Paul Owen.

Seriously, read the book. Absolutely no thought goes into alibis. If anyone actually cared in the bookverse 80's, Bateman would have been caught.

Oh man, I totally missed the mark on his last name! ;; Haha, sorry. I had never given it much thought than that, but it certainly changes my perspective on American Psycho. Hmm.
