I never use that phrase, but now I know... wow, yes, this is an occasion where it's actually really appropriate. It's amazing that someone could struggle to understand the basic premise of a movie like that.

Yeah, he purposefully uses Bateman as an alias because his and Bateman's goals are more or less the same. To kill people and fit in. I honestly can't decide if Dexter would look up to Bateman or want to kill him. I'm leaning more towards killing him, just because Bateman is so messy, and we all know how much Dexter hates messes.
