Akira Toriyama is an acquired taste, though I like him for Chrono Trigger, not DBZ. Then again, I suppose all of the artists you mentioned are acquired tastes, for some people. To each his own; that's my philosophy.

...I guess I have nothing constructive to add. I just wanted to voice my respect for Akira Toriyama, and NOT for/because of DBZ, for once. ;P

All artists that are now 'acquired taste' were not born that way, they were once totally unknown to anybody. Akira Toriyama made himself as famous as he is today: through DB, through Chrono Trigger, through Dragon Quest, through Dr. Slump, etc.

There's nothing wrong with saying 'I don't like the art in Dragon Ball' or 'I don't like the art in One Piece', indeed, to each his or her own. Personally, I don't like Heise's art, yet nobody has killed me for that (so far). But even not liking it does not mean you will learn much by saying 'ha ha they suck', especially if you are just an emerging artist yourself. That was my point.
