To be honest, Kylo's just an easier type of bad guy to portray. He's got no future to live up to and no magical destiny. He's a whiny emo douche with no impulse control, violent tendencies and an overblown sense of his own importance. Pull any incel off reddit, give him telekinesis and an army to command, and you've got Kylo Ren.

Well yes, he did murder a bunch of people in the past. And the present. And probably the future. It's like his whole shtick.

This is a bit over-simplified, but it's also, in a nutshell, what makes me think he's a really good villain, and one that could hardly be more relevant for our times.
