Bwahaha

It’s just a typical MCU movie that people act like it’s a prestige pic because black people

The idea of a "prestige pic", and the idea that only a 'prestige pic' deserves to win movies, is ridiculous and silly, though. Because being a "prestige pic" doesn't have anything to do with quality - it only refers to whether a movie has "prestige", which means whether it looks and feels High Class and Serious. And we shouldn't give awards based on that.

Black Panther was, I thought, a well-executed and good action blockbuster. I don't necessarily think it deserves Best Picture for that, but it's certainly more deserving of a nomination than something like that looks and feels more prestigious but isn't actually good.

Damn right!

SO MUCH THIS. Oscar-bait movies are so obvious when they come out; usually old people being sad stories with very famous actors who have a shelf full of Oscars already, sometimes a heartwarming outcome and sometimes a tragedy, a few sprinkles of shock, diversity, or historicity, and plenty of scenes where people are either crying or screaming at each other because the only way to be a good actor is to cry or or get angry.

I'm really glad Black Panther is nominated because the shakeup is worth it. I don't even like superhero movies but this just feels like a good step to me.

YES! So tired of the crap that gets nominated. A lot of it is so *obviously* made in the hopes of getting an Oscar, and it's about damn time a 'genre' movie like BP got nominated. I hate the mindset that excludes pretty much any sci-fi, fantasy, or 'super' movie (superhero, supernatural) or tv show from getting anything other than niche, genre awards.

Thank you. The Oscars are bullshit.

I'm getting really tired of this straw man. Just because I or anyone else don't think BP is deserving of a nomination doesn't mean I don't think a superhero movie can have a place at the Oscars.

Like, hey, Into The Spider-verse, which was actually one of the best movies this year but got ripped off via categories.

It wasn't a prestige picture, but it was a pop cultural phenomenon. I think it's equally ridiculous to assume people latched unto it just because lol black people. If that was the case something like Moonlight, an actual prestige pic, would have taken the world and fandom by storm.
