I'm not sure if it should win but I've been enjoying how much it being nominated has pissed off people who think Infinity War is the most amazing film to ever grace creation (and should've been nominated instead) when it's not even the best MCU film.

Wait, people actually think that? It was good. I enjoyed it. But it wasn't even the best MCU fic. Personal opinion and all, but it is hardly the type of movie that gets nominated for an Oscar. Black Panther is, barely, like Dark Knight was, barely. Infinity Wars, though? Not an Oscar type movie at all.

It's aaaaall over reddit (not surprisingly) and I've seen people saying it on Twitter as well.

My attitude is that if The Dark Knight possibly deserved it before they changed the number of nominees then Black Panther is ok as an inclusion. As an overall film experience it's "better" in that you don't need to see nearly 20 other films to have any emotional investment. I really don't get the "Infinity War deserved it more!" crowd because several of the characters in that have no real/meaningful arc, in no small part due to the fact there's so many characters in the first place. As you say, definitely not an Oscar type film (for several reasons) but boy is reddit in particular mad about it.

Dark Knight was terribly plotted nonsense, lifted by one striking performance which was then turned into OMG It Killed Heath Ledger, quick, give him an Oscar. If he hadn't died, it wouldn't have been nominated outside the usual categories.

Black Panther was 2/3 of a great movie, badly let down by the MCU superhero movie structure in the last third. The sets and costumes are well and truly Oscar-worthy, though.

Infinity War...well, it handled a large ensemble unusually well and the special effects were good.

A lot of Oscar movies are badly plotted nonsense. I hated Dark Knight, but there are things about it that make it make sense to me it getting Oscar nominations. Outside the superhero stuff, it was plotted like an Oscar movie. Same with Black Panther, to a lesser degree. I liked it more. But both of them just have certain things about them that are like other movies nominated for best picture Oscars.

I was so bored by IW. The most bored I can remember being in a movie in *years*.

Thank god I'm not alone. I thought it was somewhere between boring, ridiculous, and self-congratulatory. lol

Then again, Black Panther was a fun action flick but by no means Shakespeare. The storyline was as basic as any other hero movie.
