I think Molly is a good mother, and her family is a pretty happy bunch.

Wait, let me finish. She is the mother of seven children. With that many kids, plus a husband who is often not there, mothers get into the habit if making decisions and moving on. It's a mode mothers get into to make life work. So it's a shock to her when she gets pushback, such as with Sirius. I didn't like the way she handled Sirius, but I can understand that in the heat if the moment, she tried to justify her choices without really realizing exactly what those choices looked like to the kids.

Fleur and Molly are a representation of the conflict between British and French cultures, so yes, Molly was snotty to Fleur because that's how the Brits were, often, to anyone French. I'm not supporting Molly on this one, but I think it was poor writing on Rowling's part.

Hermione is trickier. I sure Molly sent owls to Ron and Ginny, at least, and didn't get satisfactory answers so she let gossip form her opinion. Again, she's in decide and go mode, and long-term planning kind of goes out the window when that's the driving mode.

Of course, any opinion of the Weasley family is shaped by the experiences the reader has in their own life, and all these interpretations have validity. I just grew up in a large, chaotic family rather like the Weasleys, and there is no doubt that my mother loved all her children deeply and did the best she could with the little she had.

Nothing to add but a big +1 to your comment.

Oh what a load of nonsense. You honestly think she wrote to her kids, "Hey is it true Hermione's a slag?" and they wrote back "Dunno, maybe?"
Really?

AYRT

Like that? No. Ron didn't reply and Ginny couched her answers. I sincerely doubt Molly asked straightforward questions.

But, wow. You've really got it in for Molly. You do you. Peace out.

You do realise that none of that is canon, right? That you've just written a little fanfic for yourself to make Molly's behaviour to an innocent child not completely moronically reprehensible? Just checking.

Name a major adult Harry Potter character who didn't do something worse to an innocent child, really

Hagrid

Hagrid's definitely the best example and even there, his lesson plans were not fantastic

Hagrid is the guy who'd let his dog bite you, then blame you for being in it's way.

He literally spent an entire year making a bunch of kids feed highly dangerous and illegal animals
