Peter Pettigrew was in Gryffindor too. You don't just go into a house because of the traits you have, but because of the traits that you admire and aspire to possess one day.

I love it that Peter was in Gryffindor, really screwed up the whole "every wizard who went bad was in Slytherin" thing.

Wait was Sirius in Slytgerin? I thought he was Gryffindor but people were saying that when he was still in Azkaban and considered guilty?

That's a good catch. Sirius was in Gryffindor, too, but Hagrid mentions at one point that every bad wizard was in Slytherin.
