I've never been particularly interested in children and at no point have I ever wanted them in particular.

I'd agreed a year ago, but I've recently seen someone sharing my previous feelings become a very competent mother.

I feel like "very competent" is kind of damning praise for a mother. You want a very competent lawyer, or a very competent accountant. Being a parent is about a lot more than surpassing basic competency, I hope.

A person having never particularly wanted kids is not the same as a person not wanting kids. For that matter, plenty of women who really want kids end up finding themselves frustrated and even resentful of motherhood when they have to handle the realities of it 24/7. OP seems just as likely to be a good parent as anyone, imo.

I agree with this. Being TOO invested beforehand can produce plenty of problems of its own.
