Your “friend” sounds like a jerk.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-03 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait... what else would you do with them???

What?? I know a LOT of people in the doll community who do that!

(Anonymous) 2019-02-03 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I might have expected that from someone who wasn't also into the same general hobby, but another doll collector? What tf does he do with his?

You do whatever makes you happy OP - sounds like he was getting a little defensive about his own interest to me.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-03 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
If it works for you, don't worry about what other people think, OP. You do you.

Ah, man, your 'friend' is a being a jackass. I don't have dolls, but when I was a kid, my stuffed animals were *always* set up nice and comfy and next to who I thought was their buddy, and I certainly put my rocks and shells and little figurines and things that are all over my house in the most flattering and 'nice' position and place I can, with other things I think they would like hanging out with.

It's what people with a shred of imagination *do*. Have fun with it and ignore that jerk.

I'm sorry your friend was a jerk. It sounds like a nice way to cope with things. I have a Roger Rabbit doll that I've had since I was 2 who helps comfort me when I'm stressed. I'm 32 so, yeah, I get you OP.

Also, anyone know where the pic is from? I like the art style. =3

To me it is the point!
I'm sure if they came alive when you leave the room like toy story.... theyd be so grateful, theyre being "played" with and bringing joy. No less important in an adult than a child.
On another note, if take photos its almost like a photo illustration for a book. So you keep on. You are doing good.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-03 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You do you OP. I think that’s a nice way to help with mental issues. I keep my stuffed animals propped up on my bed when I’m not sleeping cuz it helps me destress. So you keep doing what you’re doing. <3

PS: who the fuck is surprised when people pose or make little scenes with their dolls?!! I work retail and we have some dolls displayed like that...it just seems sensible to me to do scenes with your dolls.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-03 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, your friend sounds super ableist, op. You're fine.

You might like the documentary Marwencol, OP.

Not the new movie with Steve Carell. The documentary. I must stress this.

What the fuck is wrong with your friend?! SO MUCH OF THE HOBBY IS ABOUT THIS. There are some that just have boxed dolls or shelf sitters but they are by far not the only, or I'd say even the largest part of the hobby.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-04 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
what does your friend do with his dolls? strap them to bottle rockets and firecrackers? or maybe he swaps their heads with dinosaur action figures.

I do this with my dolls, too. You're not alone.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-04 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Not at all weird, and if you wanted to you could just explain it as a fun, creative way to display your collection.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-04 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Your friend is being an asshat and he's also in deep denial. It's not exactly a mystery why people who collect dolls and their accessories do it. It's wish fulfillment on a small scale, it's exerting control over a creation that you lack in real life. I don't mean that in a creepy way necessarily. It's just easier and tidier and feels good to have this... ordered, organized mini-thing that you provide for and complete where you decide everything.

Every single doll person I know fits this description to some degree. Your friend likely does, too.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-04 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I collect miniature things of an anime nature and have been building a tiny little room for my ball jointed doll, so she can be a geeky weeb just like me. It's fun! It's creative! There's nothing weird about it, and it's an artistic outlet to pose her and take photos. It's no different than someone making a model train setup, or building legos, or sculpting, or painting, or doing photography with models - real or plastic. Because it's artistic expression! Your friend sounds very dull.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-04 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hell no, don't apologise or feel bad about this, OP. It sounds cute and harmless. And if it makes you self-conscious then just don't share it. It's noone's business anyway.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-04 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
I unapologetically write dark Wincest fic as my coping mechanism, OP. I wouldn't worry about what you're doing at all. It sounds adorable.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-04 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hell, I'm terrified of dolls, and that's down right sweet imo...
(dont let your friend get you down. if something makes you happy, let it make you happy)

(Anonymous) 2019-02-04 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
bruh when I was collecting ABJD me and my friends would RP with them ALL THE FUCKING TIME. It was like playing Barbies, but with, you know 600$+ dolls

Another dolly person who does the same thing, OP. You aren't weird or crazy.

You're definitely not in the wrong here. That friend doesn't really sound like a good friend to you.

There's plenty of people who are passionate about these things. I follow a lot of folks on Twitter who do amazing little shoots with their Nendoroids. I hope you're able to continue doing what you do after all of these comments.
