I do honestly wonder if people forget that it's basically a kids' show. It's "evolved" a little bit, but... not really a lot? It's always been bite-sized, easy-to-follow goofy stuff, interspersed with the occasional balls-to-the-walls srs bzns.

So it's not like I can really say it's not a children's show, because it was a children's show, and because it would seem overly defensive.

At the same time, even in classic Who, the percentage of material that's really childrens-show-y varies a lot, and in new Who, it's probably only like 20% in the Moffat seasons and even lower after that. I don't think "bite-sized easy to follow goofy stuff" is an accurate summary of what's going on under the hood. And I definitely don't think anyone has ever called EG Ghost Light easy to follow.
