Austen purists need to STFU about this movie. Oh no, the clothes aren't as ugly as they were then and these harlots are running around with their hair down, who CARES

Not an Austen purist, but I care. The 1790s weren't a great time for fashion.

This is true (though the 1830s were the least fortunate decade of fashion in the modern era imo) but the book was published in 1813, so I always assumed it was set then

My god the 1830s were UGLY

the WORST

ayrt

I was truly impressed with the TV show Victoria for not overwhelming the audience with the worst fashion trends of the day when it would have been *so* easy to do so.

Nope. It's perfectly fine for people to have opinions you disagree with, and unlike you, OP was entirely civil about it.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Where does it say any of that in the secret?

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
There have been plenty of times when Austen purists have been rude to me and others for loving this movie. Up until recently, it seemed inevitable that any discussion of this movie at all would attract a bunch of Austen purists intent on eviscerating it and anybody who dared to like it.

HOWEVER. OP was completely civil, and this thread so far has been civil. Honestly, anon, in this instance, your comment is the one that was needlessly hostile.
