(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 01:03 am (UTC)(link)Years ago, I read a long Bachelor AU, where all the contestants were female except for one surprise contestant who was male (and was the OTP, of course). I ended up being disappointed, because I thought it would be so much more interesting if all the contestants were female, and it was actually one of the producers who was the OTP. And maybe the "Bachelor" character was reluctant to even be on the show but was somehow being pressured into it by family or something. And he's supposed to be courting all these women and hopefully falling for one of them, but the longer the show goes on the more he and the producer fall for each other - even though it's the producer's job to (somewhat duplicitously) orchestrate romance, sexy scenarios, and drama between the Bachelor and the contestants.
To this day, I still want this fic so bad. But sadly, I'm no writer, and there's no way in hell I'd be up to taking on something like this. :(

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 01:25 am (UTC)(link)I completely agree with this. I'm pretty sure I would find a het Bachelor AU to be unutterably dull (and I'm not even someone who hates het in general).
But in my scenario, the pairing was slash either way. I just don't find "Bachelor falls for lone male contestant" enough of a curve-ball for my liking, because at the end of the day, "Bachelor falls for contestant" is boring to me. I want "Bachelor is supposed to fall for a contestant, but instead falls for (male) producer; producer falls for Bachelor, thus fucking everything up beyond all recognition."
For example, that one really good Swan Queen Bachelor!AU fic where Emma's a contestant and Regina's a producer.
Oh damn. So my longed for fic scenario HAS been written. That's cool. If only I were into femslash. *sigh*

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 01:34 am (UTC)(link)Oh, I gotcha!
I also think contestant-on-contestant could be very, very good. I'd like to see someone give that a whirl.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 01:52 am (UTC)(link)Oh my god, why didn't I think of that!? You're right, that could be really good!
