Gamers: What was/is your brick wall boss?

[personal profile] syncing_feeling 2019-02-07 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going through Dark Souls 3, and Pontiff Sulyvahn put a massive full stop in my run today. I love these games but I've never felt so intimidated and panicked by a boss to the point where I feel "I'm not sure I can do this." I'm a dual-wielder and Bloodborne trained me to dodge but he's so goddamn fast and I just fumble.

Gamers, what boss became a brick wall in your playthrough? Did you get by it, or did they end your run? Please make me feel less alone in my struggle.

This is similar, but I messed up my skills in the first Xenoblade and didn't realize I had to change the branches once mastered. So now I'm catching up waaaay too late in the game and am doing an assload of battles to learn the skills so I can tie them to the other members for the bonuses. Add this to the fact that I pretty much suck at any game unless I'm overpowered. Basically, every boss is a brick wall at the moment. No matter how quick/effective I am with support/casting/abilities, I eventually get wiped out.

I hate it because I really want to finish the game. I've even looked up strategies and best parties to use but I'm stuck at Agni Ratha. I'm going into my third year with this game; most beat it within three weeks. Okay, so I don't play every day. That's because I'm so goddamn bored with the grinding. I want to complete the game so badly but I just suck.

Ouch, that sucks. :( Would it be viable to just start over fresh or is this really late-game? If it makes you feel better, when I first played Tales of Symphonia I didn't figure out how to switch in new techniques until about a third of the way in, so I was using baby early-game attacks for way too long. My brother found it hilarious.

I'm in the same position of "I just want to progress." Like I don't even care about the gratification of actually beating the boss now, the game is so well-designed and I'm enjoying it so much and I want to see the rest of it.

Haha, right? Exactly. You're completely invested at this point and even if it doesn't go as 100% expected, there needs to be a pay-off.

Now that I think about it, Xenosaga 2 also had its share of places to get stuck. Fortunately, I had somehow beaten the game before, so on my last runthrough, I gave up ¾ of the way and just decided to watch the rest on Youtube (it's very cut-scene heavy).

Wouldn't feel right doing that for Xenoblade, though. And to answer your question, I think it might be the same result whether I start over or continue. I'd still be investing lots of time doing multiple things, including quests, conversations, and increasing affinity levels between folks.

not a boss but a level? I don't play platformers generally, I suck at them, so I stick to button-mashers. Assassin's Creed Black Flag hit all my buttons (haha) and I was doing great until I got to the level where Edward is not allowed to kill anyone, you have to stealth your way through and the most you can do is ambush a guard and very carefully knock them out in a bush but no one can see you do it or you fail.

I tried for days and finally gave up and threw the game aside for six months.

I got it eventually and idek how, must have just been a lucky run-through, but dear god I nearly ragequit the game for good. it perfectly encapsulated why I never play those kinds of games, whenever there's forced difficulty and you must accomplish it exactly or you can't progress the game.

Hah, abandoning black flag mid playthrough months at a time must be in the manual given how often I stopped playing.
Ed is almost at the 'bag of dicks' level at stealth, that Ezio is at jumping... It's a no win through and through, I say.

No a boss, but I never beat that one level in battletoads

Demyx kills ALL my replays of Kingdom Hearts II. I don't know how I beat the game at all at this point. I cannot beat him during the 'battle of the thousand heartless' thing where he makes all the water copies. It just seems impossible. And I thought the end boss in II was so fucking easy but halfway through the game there's just FUCKING DEMYX.

My siste gave up on Ace Attorney because she never could crack Gumshoe's testimony in the tutorial case.
