There's a difference when it's a pregnant woman. It's a whole other level, dude. And don't try to sell me "but the plot!" when no, the writers had control over that. There was no reason to shoot a pregnant woman through the stomach other than to be edgy as fuck. If the scene doesn't have the same impact with a man in it, it's misogynist shock value. And it is, frankly, disgusting.

Old DMC wouldn't have done this, because they knew how to be over to top without being downright shock-factor violent misogynist. "Over the top" in old DMC is Dante blowing up a heart shape because he can. Not "shooting a pregnant woman who looks like a fucking human and emphasizing it heavily." The plot and writing doesn't exist in a fucking vacuum.

Yes, you're absolutely right, this is clearly the result of a bunch of dudes sitting around a dimly lit table, Grinch smiles spread wide over their faces, rubbing their hands together as they say in unison, "let's make sure we kill a pregnant woman!" Not that, you know, a character in their game, who is a demon, with another demon inside her, should go out in a tone-appropriately spectacular manner. I actually liked DmC, it had good gameplay, amazing art design, and Dante was ridiculous (I love the trope where writers think they've made a cool character but the character is so over the top they're actually dorky).

I honestly believe everyone only hated on it cause Dante looked different and it wasn't made by the original developers.

They very famously produced an in house slideshow with Dante on the poster of Brokeback Mountain, theres the bit in the game where nuDante gets the old hairstyle and says "Not in a million years" like where was the need for that?

Oh and locked 30fps, no Royal Guard, no manual lock-on...
