I thought the movie version of the city was beautiful, but from the first time I saw this movie, I have been annoyed by the lack of evidence of agriculture and infrastructure around it. It's like it was just plonked down there in the wilderness with no way to feed and supply itself and no connections to a wider economy and society. We do see some kind of port when Aragorn arrives with the ghost army, but that's it.
