asking the real questions

All the time. I'm doing it in this very thread, actually.

Yes, a lot, and I talk to machines at work and I call out for lost objects too.

Not often out loud.

I have never once been compelled to do so, except maybe if other people are around and while it's "talking to myself" it's just sort of blabbering commentary for other people, too.

I do talk to my cat, though.

Does talking to my cats count as talking to myself? I mean -I tell them about the laundry I'm doing or the errands I'm going to run.... As much as i love my cats, they really aren't understanding more than about five out of 100 words I say.

LOL, I do the same, but yeah, it's funny how they just kinda look at you the whole time like, "...I don't get what you're saying, but you're paying attention to me, so that's okay." :D.

Hehe, yes. They know their names, and a couple other words, but yeah, they're not twigging to me debating if i should get sandwich stuff or granola/fruit for my lunches this week.

I do this too. I also talk to random animals I see. And I talk to animals on the tv screen. I know they don't understand (or even hear in some cases). But it make me happy, so I keep doing it. My kitty gets it the most, though. And she does respond to the sound of my voice, even if she doesn't know what I'm actually saying. She perks up when she hears me, and it makes me happy.

Hee, yeah. My cats pay *attention*, and they know when i'm sweet-talking them, for sure, and when i'm telling them to stop, for the love of fucking gods, getting under my feet as i'm going downstairs!!

That is how I will die: in my polar bear fleece pjs and fuzzy slippers, at the bottom of the basement stairs, surrounded by spilled laundry. Because one of those little furry idiots just *had* to dart down in front of me and then stop *dead* practically under my foot.

My cat does the same thing. Thankfully we don't have stairs. But she's tripped me a couple times and nearly tripped both my parents. It was particularly bad after my dad broke his hip and was using a walker. She thought the walker was a toy and couldn't understand why she wasn't allowed to play with it while he was using it. I used to have to go and pick her up and move her every time he was trying to walk around.

OH jeez. They are so lovely and so damn annoying at the same time. Right now, I'm typing while looking through ears and whiskers, as Kitten (Diana if you wanna be formal) is up investigating my drink. If it were water or juice, she'd take a sip, but soda doesn't do it for her, heh.

(What cat likes grape juice? I ask you.)

Yes, but it's mostly internal.

Definitely. I think it'd be a rare person who doesn't at some point :p.

Yup, a lot. I tend to ramble/rant to myself about almost anything, dunno why but talking things out to thin-air really helps make me feel better when something is bugging me.

I think to myself, but I don't say it aloud. I do talk to my cat, though. And animals I see on the street. And animals on the tv screen.

Re: Do you talk to yourself?

(Anonymous) 2019-02-10 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. In fact I thought everyone did this because in books and on tv sometimes the main characters would talk to themselves out loud.

sometimes. most people do.

Re: Do you talk to yourself?

So, so much. And not just myself, but things, animals, sometimes an ongoing external monologue of innerthoughts.

Re: Do you talk to yourself?

Often, generally when I'm starved for intelligent conversation.

All the time. I also talk to my dog, the neighborhood cats, and the trees.

I'll practice speeches and monologues, frequently ones I know I'll never hold IRL.
