Loki is more controversial because of the adaptation factor + the actual religion factor. There are honest-to-goodness Loki worshipers who aren’t happy that Loki was treated as “a generic Satan figure.”

In terms of Norse mythology I totally get that because much of what we do have is essentially later adaptions and we'll probably never know for sure how he was intended to be seen prior to this. He also wouldn't be the only deity to have the their story scooped out of their skin and a Satan substitute poured back in - though it's usually death gods that get that particular treatment!

When it comes to Marvel Comics and the MCU though that's a different situation. He has been an outright one dimensional cackling villain, a tragic (villainous) figure, a reformed villain, an anti-hero/anti-villain etc depending on the depiction. The secret has an image of Hiddleston's Loki who has definitely done some shit and as a fan I'm not afraid to acknowledge that so it is a little exhausting seeing debates that basically erase his entire character history for reasons unknown. I usually assume because people are uncomfortable stanning a character with unsavoury aspects to their story but I don't know for sure.

Nah, the majority of legit Loki worshipers understand what fiction is.
