When it comes to Marvel Comics and the MCU though that's a different situation. He has been an outright one dimensional cackling villain, a tragic (villainous) figure, a reformed villain, an anti-hero/anti-villain etc depending on the depiction. The secret has an image of Hiddleston's Loki who has definitely done some shit and as a fan I'm not afraid to acknowledge that so it is a little exhausting seeing debates that basically erase his entire character history for reasons unknown. I usually assume because people are uncomfortable stanning a character with unsavoury aspects to their story but I don't know for sure.
