Oh man. I like Loki BECAUSE he's a piece of shit person. AND because he's tormented. It's possible to understand why a character feels victimized without actually condoning their justifications from an OOC perspective. Understanding where Loki is coming from and pitying him is not the same as excusing his actions and conclusions, and in fact, I enjoy watching him dig his own grave often while bemoaning that his lot in life was never what he wanted it to be. It's fun!

And even if I sometimes feel sorry for him, that doesn't mean I think what he did is ok. Jeezus, people have layers!

Yeah, that's pretty much it right here. There are genuine reasons why he's making bad life decisions and he is genuinely pained about them, but his OTT attempts at making daddy proud or whatever are just so hysterically misguided that he'd be a farce if he weren't also taking thousands of innocents down with him.
