I'm pretty certain people have tried to guess where a series is going to go for as long as serials have existed? What, you think folks in 1838 read up to the bit where Oliver Twist is captured by Bill Sikes and went, "Goodness, that was bracing! I certainly have no curiosity about what the next installment holds!"?

(Anonymous) 2019-02-12 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, what? This is what HP fandom does. It's what HP fandom has always done.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-12 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
No. Not now, not ever, OP. :)

More seriously, though, one of the goals of series writing is to get your audience hooked and frothing for more.

Eddie Redmayne in these films is just the most adorable thing ever. I want to bring him home for tea and snacks and read books together by the fire.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Meanwhile, I want to bully him and make him suffer because his character is so soft/sensitive and he'd cry so prettily.

Not to be condescending, but that "now" at the end of your secret makes me think you definitely do not remember when the original HP novels were coming out. People speculated a lot. Also, as someone above me said, that's what fans of serial fiction do!

I remember before the third book came out, my local newspaper ran a contest for people to predict what would happen

Newt is so cute, easily best Potterverse waifu.

Honestly Newt is just so adorable in general, I haven't seen the new movie but I loved him in the first FB, he was just so sweet and kind. Idk I'd just love to sit and talk with him about magical animals, or regular ones.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
He's even better in the second one, and the scenes with his brother are especially sighworthy.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
He's definitely just as adorable in the sequel, but his place/purpose in the story is a undefined mess.

i can't recommend the 2nd one. it tries to be so epic and newt has ZERO influence on the plot and it's a very frustrating experience. his sweet personality is what made him the hero of the first one! in the second one he could be replaced by a rubber ball.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
sa- wow this is very ironic, i wrote my comment before i saw the one above lmao.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, fuck the second movie. This series would be so much better if it dropped this greater scope "war of the Wizards" nonsense and just focused on Newt's fun adventures. He's such a refreshing male main character and he deserves so much better than what Rowling did.

I've been out of the fic side of fandom for a while now, so does "prefict" mean... like "predict in fanfic"? Or is this just a typo or a case of a bad font?

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I've never seen 'prefict' as a thing before, and the 'f' and 'd' keys are right next to each other, so I'm willing to bet it's a typo.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I was only so-so on the first movie (and probably won't bother watching the second), but I do really love Newt as a character. The nurturing, empathetic male lead, who is weird and a bit of a loner but not at all misanthropic is such a rare character type, and I love it.

It helps that Eddie Redmayne is one of those actors you cast when you want someone who is so good they will pretty much always elevate the material from how it exists on the page.

[personal profile] hey_hey_hey 2019-02-13 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
the movies are garbage. they would have never gained any fandom traction if there wasn't some ugly "accessible" british guy playing the supposed lead character.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Shit taste.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure people have the same amount of patience now that they ever had, exactly none... (it seems people are just a lot more annoying about it these days.)

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Because speculation is half the fun in an on-going story.
